Alexandria is a reading library, not a publishing platform. The people who write the things you read deserve to have their work protected. We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. 512, and respond promptly to valid notices of claimed infringement.
1. Designated DMCA Agent

2. How to File a Takedown Notice
A valid takedown notice under 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3) must include all of the following:
- Your signature (physical or electronic). Typing your full legal name counts.
- The copyrighted work you believe has been infringed. If multiple works are covered, a representative list is fine.
- The infringing material and where it lives on Alexandria. Include the URL (e.g.,
https://app.alexandria.live/sources/[id]) and a description of where the material appears. - Your contact information: name, address, phone number, and email.
- A good faith statement that the use of the material isn't authorised by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law.
- An accuracy statement under penalty of perjury that the information in your notice is accurate and that you're authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
Email your notice to dmca@alexandria.live with the subject line “DMCA Takedown Notice”.
3. How to File a Counter-Notification
If your content was removed and you believe it was taken down by mistake (for example, you hold a licence or believe the use is fair use), you can file a counter-notification. A valid counter-notification under 17 U.S.C. 512(g)(3) must include:
- Your signature (physical or electronic).
- The removed material and the URL where it previously appeared.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and phone number, plus a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district where you reside (or any district where Alexandria may be found, if outside the US), and that you'll accept service of process from the original complainant.
Email your counter-notification to dmca@alexandria.live with the subject line “DMCA Counter-Notification”.
4. What Happens Next
- We review takedown notices within 1 business day of receipt.
- Valid notices: content is removed within 24 hours of validation.
- The affected user is notified within 24 hours of removal.
- Counter-notifications are forwarded to the original complainant within 10 business days.
- If the complainant doesn't file a court action, content is restored 10 to 14 business days after forwarding.

5. Misrepresentation Warning
Under 17 U.S.C. 512(f), anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing, or that material was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages and legal fees. Only submit a notice or counter-notification if you genuinely believe your claim is valid.
6. Repeat Infringer Policy
Alexandria terminates accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyright, as required by 17 U.S.C. 512(i). Two valid DMCA complaints against the same account within 12 months will result in permanent account termination. You have the right to file a counter-notification before any termination takes effect. For full details, see Section 16 of our Terms of Service.
